Estate Management- Admission Requirement

2.                  ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

Admission into the department can be through either of the following modes.

 

2.1               UNIVERSITY MATRICULTION EXAMINATION (UME)

 

Candidates seeking admission through the University Matriculation Examinations (UME) organized by Joint Admission and matriculation Board (JAMB) must in addition to passing the entrance examination at the University specified level, possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education (SSCE) or its equivalent with credit passes in at least five subjects which must include Mathematics, English Language, Economics and any other two from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Agricultural Science and Building Construction, in not more than two sittings.

 

2.2              DIRECT ENTRY (D/E)

 

Holders of degrees in related disciplines or HND Estate Management would be admitted to Part II and holders of Higher School Certificate, GCE “A” level and OND in Estate Management would be admitted to Part II provided they meet the above entry requirement specified in 2.1 above and take remedial courses form Part I programme as may be recommended by the Department.

 

 

2.3              DURATION OF PROGRAMME

 

The Bachelor of Science Programme in Estate Management shall last for a minimum of ten semesters (i.e. five years) for holders of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent. However, no student shall be granted an extension of more than four (4) semesters (i.e. two years if he or she fails to graduate within the minimum duration.

 

Holders of higher qualifications may be granted appropriate exemptions commensurate with their background. Transfers from other courses will be treated on their individual merits.

 

 

4.                  TITLE OF THE DEGREE TO BE AWARDED

 

The degree to be awarded on successful completion of the programme is the Bachelor of Science in Estate Management abbreviated B.Sc. (Estate Management).

 

 

5.                  REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE

 

The award of the B.Sc. (Estate Management) degree is subject to the candidate fulfilling the University general conditions for the award of the degree in addition to having satisfied the following:

 

  • The candidate must have passed all the prescribed compulsory examinations.
  • The candidate must have completed minimum total credit units of 184.
  • The candidate must have successfully completed a semester of industrial work for practical experience in recognized and approved organization, a report of which must be prepared and submitted to the Department.
  • The candidate must have successfully completed a research work embodied in the form of project or dissertation reports; and
  • The candidate must have shown adequate evidence of being worthy in character.

 

 

6.                  COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 

The major course components that make up the curriculum for the B.Sc. (Estate management) degree programme comprise Property Valuation, Feasibility and Viability Appraisals, Property Management, Building Technology, Law, Economics, Land Economics, and Town Planning, among others. Some of these courses are offered outside the Department. The course components can be categorized into three, namely:

 

  1. Those courses offered in the Department of Estate Management
  2. Those courses offered in cognate departments; and

iii.        Those courses offered in the General studies unit.

 

The courses can be further categorized into compulsory core courses, compulsory ancillary courses and elective courses.
